Agradecimientos!

The Tepoztl‡n Collective could not have put on this conference without la ayuda de las siguientes personas:

David Kazanjian and Micol Seigel got the funding drive rolling with large commitments from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Indiana. "At Penn we especially thank Jim English, Elizabeth Anderson, and Rita Copeland. At Duke, Caroline Light and Gil Merxk once again supported the cause of a truly international gathering, and we are indebted to Jolie Olcott and John French for their help with fundraising at the same institution. At Arizona, the indomitable Laura Briggs hit the WomenÕs Studies coffers for the third straight year, inspiring GeorgiaÕs Women's Studies director Chris Cuomo to do the same. Also at Georgia, Dean Pandit and Dean Stokes both provided funding for the third year in a row, as did LACSI, the Department of History, and the PresidentÕs Venture Fund, under the fiery leadership of Alan Kulikoff and Bethany Moreton, GeorgiaÕs dynamic History of Capitalism graduate concentration also provided funding and key moral support. At NYU, the Brown Beret Comandante herself, Josie Salda–a, brought Latino Studies on board in an act of transcontinental solidarity the likes of which we haven't seen since Che went to Bolivia.

The Transi recruitment award this year is a three-way tie between David Sartorius, Silvia Nœ–ez Garc’a, and ÒLa Vestida,Ó Sara Amelia Espinosa Islas. Julieta Sierra Ciesas, Laura Briggs, Mar’a Elena Mart’nez, Laura GutiŽrrez, Catherine Cocks, Bethany Moreton, and many others were also corriendo la voz. UGAÕs Brenda Luke made snazzy pdf files of our formal invites.

The Popul Vuh Publishing Prize goes to David Kazanjian and Josie Salda–a this year for their work in putting together a special issue of Social Text (2007) sampling some of the scholarship from the Tepoztl‡n Institute.

Josie Salda–a and Iliana GutiŽrrez were this yearÕs superstar housing dominatrixes and diva management czarinas.  If your fantasies became a reality this year, it is largely due to the strategic bed-lam designed by these two.  If not, itÕs your own damn fault; we did what we could.

Anne Rubenstein, Reiko Hillyer, Kristina Boylan, Laura Briggs, and David Kazanjian all enhanced the program with their reading and panel suggestions and their scanning and uploading help.

El premio de Reina de Tepoztl‡n y Super Transi this year goes to Catherine Cocks, Catherine Holmes, Kristina Boylan, and Iliana GutiŽrrez. Cam Cocks sent out acceptance letters, dominatrixed the program, and provided a moral compass through the chaos. Cat Holmes chased down hundreds of emails for the invitation list, sent out invite letters and letters of acceptance, collected fees, and pursued funding through the labyrinth of UGAÕs bureacracy. Kristina Boylan, valiente coordinadora de escuincles, made arrangements for our kids at Experiencia Language School, organized a fantastic panel on fighting the neoliberal university, and heroically defended the institute from jacobin nationalists.  Silvia Ballinas Tapia, Directora de la Escuela Experiencia, richly deserves the Paulo Freire award for helping our children become the next generation of transi bilingual rock stars. Iliana GutiŽrrez kept track of emails, made all of you legible on excel spreadsheets and laid out the program.

The Kafka Bureaucracy award goes to Patty Ponce of CIESAS for battling Gobernaci—n and wrangling visas for our Cuban colleagues Abel Sierra and Julie Portela. Abajo el bloqeo! Cuba si!

The hardest work of the coloquio has been done by super cocineros and organizadores Do–a Minerva, Don Luis, Do–a Sirena de la Cruz Serrano, and Don Felix de la Cruz and their families. Thanks also to Jatziri, our Tepoztl‡n real estate agent extraordinaire who provides the high-thread count sheets and the poolside margaritas.  Un abrazo for Sergio Palleroni, architect, humanitarian, philanthropist, in whose Lima Real we all live, eat and breathe.

Un abrazo revolucionario for the collective and all of the participants for their generous contributions and for redistributing wealth to the South!

Pamela Voekel and Elliott Young for the collective: Laura Briggs, Sara Amelia Espinosa Islas, David Sartorius, Josie Salda–a, Kristina Boylan, Micol Seigel, Reiko Hillyer, Julieta Sierra Ciesas, Bethany Moreton, Rogelio Jimenez Marce, Rodrigo Laguarda, Michael Denning, Ageeth Sluis, Jolie Olcott, Lisbeth Haas, Jason Ruiz, Anne Rubenstein, Victor Macias Gonzalez, David Kazanjian, and Catherine Cocks.
