Cell features specific to plants: plastids (specifically, chloroplasts here), vacuoles, and cell walls. The plasmodesmata have animal counterparts, don't they? Anyway, the thing to recognize here is that cells have cytoplasmic connections -- i.e. the cell wall does not seal off each cell. This cell wall shown here is called a primary cell wall. Check out its location relative to the cell membrane. It's important. If this cell were to lay down more cellulose and make a secondary cell wall, where would it be in relation to the primary wall? |
