Please plan to attend the 2009 annual meeting of the Pacific Northwest Political Science Association, in Victoria, British Columbia. Contact the appropriate section chair to propose papers or to serve as a panel chair or discussant. The Association welcomes the participation proposals of advanced graduate students but a letter of endorsement by a faculty sponsor should accompany the proposal. If you would like to propose a special panel in addition to the ones listed below, please contact Cornell Clayton at cornell@mail.wsu.edu. Deadline for proposals is August 7, 2009.
Location and Accommodations
The 2009 PNWPSA conference will be held October 15 – 17 at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria, BC. We have a set number of rooms reserved at the Empress, and members can call to reserve their rooms at 250-384-8111 or 1-800-441-1414. As with last year, they should identify themselves as a PNWPSA participant. The standard room rate will be $147 Canadian (approx. $135 US) per night, not including tax and parking. This room rate is guaranteed until September 15, 2009. Please reserve as soon as possible. You will need a current passport to enter Canada.

Vaughn Palmer, Lunch Speaker
Vaughn Palmer has been the Vancouver Sun’s provincial
political columnist, based in Victoria, since 1984. He hosts Voice of B.C., an
hour-long interview show on Shaw TV and also does commentaries on CKNW radio,
based in Vancouver. For 22 years, he has done a weekly commentary on Canadian
news on KUOW, the NPR radio station at the University of Washington. During
that time he has covered eight premiers (and counting, judging from the latest
opinion polls). Palmer attended the University of B.C. He also attended
Stanford University on a journalism fellowship in 1982-83. He is a past winner
of the Bruce Hutchison award for lifetime achievement from the Jack Webster Foundation
and of the Hyman Solomon Award for excellence in public policy journalism from
the Canadian Public Policy Forum.
