International Fair dazzles and satiates
After three days of rehearsals, five hours of cooking and months of preparation, the International Fair went off with a bang last Saturday. Representing countries from all the corners of the world, the event not only boasted high student participation, but was also well attended by Lewis & Clark students and their visiting families.

LC mother-daughter team begins an unusual law partnership at co-owned firm in Northwest Portland
They run an unusual business. Sitting for the interview, it’s more like being welcomed into a family living room than a law office. The interviewees sit conversing, correcting one another, finishing each other’s sentences, and sharing a mug of coffee between them. Kohlhoff takes a sip of her coffee, absentmindedly setting it back down in front of her daughter. This is not only a business but a relationship of give and take—a very successful one.

College improves endowment, education, says President
“Lewis & Clark students are a different kind of student,” President Tom Hochstettler said in his annual State of the College Address last Saturday at 9:00pm. The crowd, mostly of parents and staff, chuckled appreciatively. “They come here confused, skeptical and eager to get it all out,” the President said. But, he explained, LC is a better school for it.

Black History Month speaker urges life “in the present”
Dr. Washington shared ideas about what it means to “connect outside of your comfort zone;” on what student leaders can do to foster diversity on campus
Dr. Jamie Washington conducted the last of the College’s Black History Month Speaker Series on February 28. He arrived from Baltimore, where he serves as the founder and president of the Washington Consulting Group, to lead a workshop called “We’re All In This Together: Coalition Building Across Difference.” This was Washington’s second visit to Lewis & Clark in two years: in 2005, he spoke to the Department of Student Life.

Vietnam veteran and family members share their experiences at LC
On April 30, 1975, thousands of people across the country eagerly received the news that the Vietnam War had finally, after sixteen years, come to an end.
Although the end of the war marked the conclusion of the armed conflict between the United States and North Vietnam, it marked only the beginning of the journey for the thousands of soldiers who were now returning home hoping that the lives they had left behind would still be intact.

Band van takes an awkward tumble
Last Saturday night, a van driving to the Rusty Nail between the D and E block of Copeland nearly crashed into the building when it got stuck in the mud. The pathway was not large enough for the van and forced two of its wheels off of the asphalt, over a railroad tie, and into a ditch.
