President delivers State of the College address:
Hochstettler is positive but realistic regarding financial situation
“Wonderful things take place here every day,” said President Tom Hochstettler as he began the annual State of the College address on Wednesday, Oct. 18.
Hochstettler, presiding over a crowd of some 50 faculty and staff members in Agnes Flanagan Chapel, emphasized throughout his speech that Lewis & Clark is in a secure financial state.

Generations of alumni return to Lewis & Clark
Alumni Weekend, the largest annual event hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations, had record levels of attendance October 5-8, the dates of this year’s event. Erin Ogle, acting director of Alumni Programs, said that approximately 600 alumni registered for the event in advance. Most of these registrations were from alumni who live on the East Coast or internationally and made special arrangements to be here for the weekend. In addition, there were approximately 150-200 at-the-door registrations, mostly from alumni who live in the westernmost states.

Graduate school professor Alejandra Favela is first speaker of series
The “Missing Pieces and Whole Stories” Conversation Series commenced on October 5 with a talk on immigration by Alejandra Favela, Ph.D., assistant professor of Teacher Education at the Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling.
Favela’s talk is part of a continuing series on immigration.

Portland beat
Riding on a TriMet bus, looking at the menagerie of people, one comes to the conclusion that there are many shapes, sizes, colors, and often smells that make up the average Portlander. It is the conformity of nonconformity that defines our city. In a city whose unofficial motto is “Portland fucking Oregon,” the municipal government is taking an equally assertive, if not offensive, approach to urban planning to better encompass Portland’s heterogeneity.
