What is Biofeedback?

Our minds and bodies work together to shape the way we interact with the world. Biofeedback is one way to measure how people's state of mind affects their physiological state (Matuszek & Rycraft, 2003).
Beta, Alpha, Theta, and Delta Brain Waves
There are beta, alpha, theta, and delta level brain waves. Each have a different frequency. Today there are therapies for people with addictions and anxiety disorders that train them to create alpha and theta level brain waves. By self-regulating physiological states, people become more aware and can transform their consciousness (Moss, 2002).
Types of Biofeedback
* Computer-aided biofeedback (CAB): electronic biofeedback that provides signals to a user through a computer interace
* Electromyograph (EMG): measures muscular electrical activity, measures muscle tension or relaxation
* Thermal biofeedback: measures skin temperature to determine constriction or dilation of blood vessels
