The clearstory and living room area are the entry to the
house. Here you see the original family room (loom room to some of you)
after the abatement debacle. The gas fireplace that is on the left wall
will be moved between the two windows -- new windows will be installed.
The wall on the right will have the french doors into the away room. The
clearstory will run from the entry way by the front door to the landing
for the stairs to the second floor. The clearstory is a long narrow vaulted
area with windows on the east side and south end. We think it will be
a dramatic feature that will enhance the entry into the house and provide
additional light. The visual impression will be of a large open area since
you will be able to see all the way to the back of the away room through
the french doors. |
| Here we look up into the area where the clearstory will meet the stair
landing above. Until we actually see the construction, it's hard to imagine
how the vault will look but it will be significantly higher than the roof
that you see above the joists in this picture. Everything you see in this
picture will be gone and replaced with vaulting. |

This picture was taken from the kitchen area on November 1. You can see
where the front door is on the far left. The small wall that was there by
the front door (studs still there) will be completely eliminated. Everything
you see in the ceiling here will be vaulted. The clearstory will run through
the upper part of this picture. There will also be two skylights in the
living room -- adding more light. One major change we wanted to make to
the house was to lighten things up, so we have several skylights and a lot
of windows. |
| This picture was take late on December 20. It gives you a good idea of
what the living room and hall will be like. The hall is clearly visible
with the framing for the half bath complete (just behind the hole in the
floor on the right). The wall across the middle of the picture is the away
room without the french doors framed. We have decided to make the french
doors, pocket doors. Extending out from the half bath will be the stair
case to the second floor so the view into the kitchen will not be as open
as you see here. |

It's now January 15 and we can really see the clearstory starting to shape
up. It will be a very impressive vault for the entry area. The support beams
can be seen and the front door is on the right. This picture was taken from
the door into the garage. The ladder is located where the stairs will be;
you can see the door into the back upstairs bedroom. |
