This is the kitchen and living room area in the original
floor plan. This picture was taken in September after what is referred
to the "abatement debacle." You can see that in the living room
the floor is down to the bare boards and the ceiling is bare gyp board.
This is a result of the fact that the popcorn style ceiling in the living
room (as well as most other rooms in the house) contained a small amount
of asbestos and under the carpeting, there was a linoleum floor that also
had minor amounts of asbestos -- all required to be removed by a duly
certified company that costs lots more money to pull this stuff out than
the normal contractor. |
| This picture was taken October 21. Standing somewhat farther away than
in the first picture, you see that the wall board has been partially removed
and they are working on removing the framing that is no longer required. |

This picture is from November 1. I like this because you can really start
to see how large the kitchen and great room area are. This is taken from
the area near the front door. The studs that are still in the middle of
the room will go away when the one main support post is put in place. The
door you see is the way out to the deck, it will become the entry to the
pantry. |
| Here's what used to be the back deck and the door you see above. This
is the excavation that's been done to pour a foundation for the new pantry.
The pantry is going to be a large (4x7) walk-in room with a pocket door
to close it off. The decking will be replaced and the exit to deck will
new french doors. |

It's December 20th and things are moving. This view is looking through
the kitchen to the back of the great room. You can see the framing for the
french doors out to the deck. Just to the left of the french doors is the
entry to the pantry, the new foundation is covered with black plastic. This
is what used to be the hole that is depicted in the picture above. You can
also see the location of one of the two windows that are in the east wall.
This will be the window that we get to look out while doing dishes. To get
another idea of the change that's taking place, compare this picture to
the previous one in the left column. |
