CONCURRING OPINION

"I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life . . . to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion."

Henry David Thoreau

Much like Thoreau, the Majority Opinion staff has sought to compile the honest sentiments of numerous generations of law students who have experienced life in Portland. Our purposes are three-fold:

(1) to give you as many useful, or perhaps unuseful, facts as possible in one bound volume;

(2) to provide you with the relevant information needed to begin life in Portland; and

(3) to show you that life in law school does involve a little bit of fun, and where to go in order to have it.

This guide is updated every year. If you discover anything that you wish had been included, or if you notice that any information has changed, please let us know, and your input will be incorporated into the next edition. A "suggestions binder" is available with Sherry Thompson, the Academic Affairs Assistant. You can also e-mail us at lo@lclark.edu.

The best advice we can give you on using this guide is to consider it a mere starting point. Remember the guidance of Thoreau: the key to fulfillment lies in a perpetual quest for a deep and honest life.
