Developer's Note
The LCCC was the product of an independent study course called "Perl/CGI
Programming" developed in the Fall of '98 by me (Erich Hannan) under the
supervision of Assistant Professor Jens Mache. My goal for this site is to
help enable alternative forms of transportation at Lewis and Clark. During
my first few years at LC I saw desperate messages for rides scattered in
different locations on campus and in email notices. I also saw a parking
lot overflowing with cars, most of which only had one passenger - the
driver. These factors led me to believe that we need a centralized place
to help solve our transportation issues.
The LCCC was my solution. My work on the project enabled me to learn Perl
programming for the web, and provide a useful tool for my college
community. As a computer science major, I have seen many instances of the
business and educational uses of computers, but I wanted to use this
powerful medium to help make a positive environmental impact. I hope that
this web site is useful to those who use it, and even if it only
facilitates a few carpools I will view this project as a success.
