Q: "What's the difference between private and class instruction?"
A: Generally people take private lessons when the class materials are not challenging
enough or the time doesn't work out with one's schedule. The work load for private
instruction is much greater. The personal attention you get also requires the assimilation
of more material at a higher level.
Q: "I'm not sure if I should be in the beginning or advanced guitar class, which should I
come to?"
A: In our first class I'll pass out an evaluation form that will help me determine where
you best fit. If we're still not sure then I'd suggest, if your time permits, that you attend
both classes for a few weeks. After three classes you will know where you best fit.
Q: "Is this class offered for a grade? If so, how do you grade?"
A: MUP 134 is offered both as CR/NC or by grade. If you didn't specifically sign up for
CR/NC you will be assigned a grade.
I grade mostly by attendance, class participation, and an understanding of the material
and to a lesser degree on the execution of the assignments. You can go to
www.lclark.edu/`kritzer to see more about grading.
Q: "What is the difference between folk and classical private lessons?"
A: There is quite a bit of difference. Classical, or 'Spanish Guitar' is a specific genre that
carries it's own special technical requirements, (which can be quite daunting to a
beginner). Folk guitar is mostly the exploration of songs where the learning of material
and styles of playing is emphasized. (You can see more of the descriptions at
www.lclark.edu/`kritzer .)
