Technical
Requirements
All participants should:
- Have basic Email and Web browsing
skills.
- Have consistent access to a computer with
a reliable Internet connection. Minimum download speed of
128 kbps recommended. Check your connection speed here.
- A more practical test is to try
to view one of this video:
Social Networking in Plain English.
You will not be viewing videos every day. However, viewing
videos will be common during the course. If you cannot access
these videos from usual computer, please arrange access to a
computer where you can watch.
- Have consistent access to a computer with
one of the following operating
systems and using one of the following Web
browsers. If needed, you can
download Internet Explorer here.

- Have the ability to open .pdf documents.

- Have Flash player and Java installed on
your computer. You can test here

- Optional: Have the capability of
recording voice either via an internal microphone (most laptops
have this) or by way of an external microphone. Here is a
tutorial
for setting up your microphone for recording.
- Optional: Have a set of
headphones.
NOTE: If you are looking to purchase equipment for the
future: Skype has a shop with a sampling of headsets, Web cams and
other items
that help with online communication.
VoiceThread has recommendations
too. I use an inexpensive USB microphone and inexpensive
headphones.
