Integrating the Internet
into the Classroom
Facilitator: Michael Krauss
Who should
take this course?
Anyone who is interested in learning more about the Internet and how
it can enhance education would benefit from this course. Though
designed specifically with ESL /EFL (English as a Second
Language/English as a Foreign Language) teachers in mind, it has been
taken by many content area teachers (math, science, language arts,
social studies, etc.). These teachers teach students from the primary
grades through university. A more complete description is available
here.

What
equipment and skills do I need to take the course?
You need a reliable computer with reasonably fast (not dial-up)
Internet access, a Web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox,
etc.) and a working Email account. Participants need have only very
basic Email and Web browsing skills to participate. You will spend a
lot of time online. The faster and more reliable your Internet
connection, the more efficiently you will be able to move through the
assigned tasks. Check the technical
requirements to be sure you are well
enough equipped to handle the course.

How
long is the course and how much time per day does it take?
The course lasts three weeks (with a fourth week often available
for those who need more time to finish up). Depending on your

connection speed, you'll spend from 2-3 hours/day, five days/week on

Do I
need to be online at a certain time of day?
The time you choose to be online is completely flexible. You can
choose to work at different times each day or even in the middle of
the night. You can work every day or save up hours to work on the
weekends or when it is convenient for you. There will be an
opportunity to meet in "real time" with your classmates and
instructor, but several time choices will be offered for your
convenience.

What
percentage of teachers successfully complete the course?
Because I work closely will all participants, the success rate
in this course, which has been offered to hundreds of teachers since
1998, is over 95%. If you make a good faith effort at completing the
course tasks, you will definitely be successful. In the rare case
where injury, illness, or other unforeseen event occurs, teachers are
allowed to postpone taking the course until a future session at no
additional cost.

What if I will
be away during part of the course?
If you will be unable to participate for 1-3 days during the
course, this should not be a problem. The course is flexible enough
so that you can double up on work either before or after your
absence. If you will be unable to participate for longer than three
days, you should discuss this with the instructor to determine if
taking the course will be feasible.
