Exploring Web 2.0
Facilitator: Michael Krauss

Final Project

You have two choices to make before beginning your final project:

1) Choose to work alone or with a group
2) Choose to present a
lesson plan or a professional development activity.

Presentation of the final project:

Most of you will choose to write up your project using Microsoft Word. When you finish, you will go to Our Ning and go to the Forum tab to find the discussion topic, "Final Project." There you will find questions to answer and instructions for uploading your project. NOTE: You will be creating a resource using a Web 2.0 tool as part of your project (see below). Your project write-up should include the URL of your resource so we can all experience it and provide feedback.

Resources required in the final project:

For either the lesson plan or professional development activity, participants are required to incorporate at least one Web 2.0 tool. Examples would include: an online survey (SurveyMonkey), a wiki page (Google Sites), a blog (Ning, Blogger), a collaborative mindmap (Mind42), a podcast (Voxopop), a multimedia resource (VoiceThread), a class portal (iGoogle or Google Sites ), etc. NOTE: You are required to actually create a resource using one or more of the tools, not just describe it. For example, if you plan to use survey in a professional development activity, you would need to create the actual survey in SurveyMonkey and make the URL (Web address) of the survey available to be viewed by the teacher and the classmate who reviews your project.

Grading of the final project:

A = meets every lesson plan/PDA requirement set out below clearly and completely. The project is well suited to the students/teachers for whom it is intended. The project clearly shows a substantive understanding of the Web 2.0 concepts presented during the course.

B = meets most lesson plan/PDA requirements set out below. The project takes into account the students/teachers for whom it is intended. The project shows some, but not a complete understanding of the Web 2.0 concepts presented during the course.

C = fails to meet in a substantial way some of the lesson plan/PDA requirement set out below. May not take into account the students/teachers for whom it is intended. The project may show little understanding of the Web 2.0 concepts presented during the course.

Note: A lesson plan or PDA that does not include a Web 2.0 resource created by you cannot earn higher than a grade of C on the final project.

Lesson Plan Project Requirements:

A successful lesson should be S.M.A.R.T.

The lesson plan write-up must:

  1. Give the lesson title + duration.
  2. Describe the students who will use the lesson (age, subject, English language ability).
  3. List any special equipment needed to prepare and perform the lesson.
  4. List the objectives of the lesson (if an ESL/EFL lesson, include both the language and content objectives).
  5. Describe the materials and the Web-based resources that will be used in the lesson.
  6. Delineate clearly the steps of the lesson.
  7. Describe the output of the lesson (what students will produce).
  8. Explain how the students will be assessed.
  9. Explain the rationale for using Web 2.0 resources and clearly describe how these resources would enhance the lesson.
  10. Give the URL of the Web 2.0 resource you created to support your lesson.

Professional Development Activity (PDA) Requirements:

The PDA write-up must:

  1. Describe the members who will participate in the PDA.
  2. Clearly delineate the objectives of the PDA.
  3. Provide a timeline for the PDA that includes specific benchmarks to be achieved.
  4. Describe the Web 2.0 resources that will be used to enhance the PDA.
  5. Explain how the success of the PDA will be assessed.
  6. Explain how the concepts learned in the course will assist in designing and implementing a successful PDA.
  7. Give the URL of the Web 2.0 resource you created to support your PDA.
