Access the WebCT Course Listing

Login to your Homepage Design Page (Instructor page)

  1. Drag a bookmark now into isalcwww--->WebCT folder. You can also access this page via http://haystack.lclark.edu:8900/SCRIPT/ESL382/scripts/serve_home (substitute your course login for "ESL382")

Customize the Homepage Design Page (Instructor page)

  1. Colors; #3
  2. Background Image; Check circle "None"; Update
  3. Banner; Text: (Add your text); Update
  4. Header; Check circle; delete; yes;
    1. Add; Text and Image; Text Heading: Center; Bold; Size = 5; (Type in your text); Add
    2. Add new: Text and Image (Repeat for each line of text you want to add).
  5. Footer: Click circle; delete; yes
  6. Reorganize; Click circles for icons you want to hide; hide (repeat for all items you want hidden).

<Optional> Create Welcome Page (Course Settings; Welcome Page) We won't do this today.

<Optional> Customize Welcome Page- We don't do this today.

Add Students

  1. Course Management; Student Management; Students; Add Single Student; First name; Last name; Login ID; Initial Password; (Tip: Enter same name for Login ID and Initial Password. Makes it easy to remember/type); Add (Don't forget this--you may have to scroll down to see the "Add" button)
  2. Repeat for each student until done. (It's a good idea to add "guest" "guest" so you --or anyone else-- can log in to this site).

Post an Assignment

  1. On the Homepage: Click Bulletin Board icon; Forum Management in left column (if not available, click Options Menu); New Forum; Enter the title of the forum you want to create; Continue; Done; Forum in left column; Select Forum you want; Compose in left column; Enter a subject.
  2. [If you want to attach a graphic, do it now like this: Click Attachment; Attach; Browse (navigate to the graphic you want to attach--a GIF or JPG file); Continue; Click check box; Done]
  3. Click in the box set aside for typing; Type your question/assignment; Post; Update listing in left column; Click Attachments to see graphics if you added any.

Access the Student Page, Bookmark to isalcwww, Explore Your Bulletin Board Assignment

  1. Quit Netscape (necessary in order to enter the Student Page as a student would).
  2. Open Netscape; Type the URL of the Student Page =

    http://haystack.lclark.edu:8900/SCRIPT/
    ESL382/scripts/serve_home
    (substitute your login for the ESL 382)
  3. Login: login = guest; password = guest
  4. Drag a bookmark to isalcwww--->WebCT.
  5. Click on the Bulletin Board icon.
  6. Follow your handout, "Using the Bulletin Board" and play around.
  7. You can remove any replies/comments, etc.you put in by:
    1. Quitting Netscape, then Opening Netscape again by clicking on the bookmark for the Designer Homepage.
    2. Get into the Bulletin Board assignment you set up.
    3. Click in the check box in front of any messages you want to remove.
    4. Click Delete in the column on the left. (If Delete doesn't show up, click on Message Menu).
    5. Answer "yes" when asked if you want to delete all the selected messages.
