The Health Culture and Society Club
at Lewis & Clark College

The purpose of the Health, Culture and Society Club (HCSC) is to provide resources for students who are interested in exploring the relationships between sociocultural issues, health, and the natural sciences, with a special emphasis on social justice and medicine. We work to help the LC community with finding volunteer work at local community-based clinics and other health care sites. We also hope you will use this site to inform yourself about global health and social justice, and find resources to help you prepare for a career in a health profession. Finally, we encourage you to get involved or continue learning about HCSC and our activities here on campus; this year we are making plans for documentary showings, guest speakers, and student research presentations.Finding%20Volunteer%20Work.htmlLearning%20about%20Health%20and%20%20Social%20Justice.htmlResources%20for%20Graduate%20and%20Medical%20School.htmlAbout%20HCSC.htmlshapeimage_2_link_0shapeimage_2_link_1shapeimage_2_link_2shapeimage_2_link_3

Health Related Groups at LC

The Social Medicine Reading Group
This is the regular meeting of HCSC. We come together once a week for 45 minutes of scholarship and 15 minutes of action.

The Archimedes Movement at LC
The Public Health Sector in Oregon will change radically in the coming years.
Come take part in creating a sustainable system based on Oregonian’s values.

African Awareness Group
This group allows for students on the Lewis & Clark College campus to provide important information to the community about issues that are affecting areas throughout the continent of Africa. This group has been focusing on the war that has been taking place in northern Uganda for the past twenty years between the Lords Resistance Army and the government of Uganda. The main target of this war has been children between the ages of 6 and 18 who are being abducted to become the major fighting force for this war.

Unite for Diabetes
The Unite for Diabetes Group at LC works to raise world-wide awareness about a new campaign sponsored by the International Diabetes Federation called “Unite for Diabetes.” This campaign recently played an instrumental role in passing a UN resolution proclaiming November 14 world diabetes day, and aims to bring diabetes awareness and education to one billion people around the world.Social%20Medicine%20Reading%20Group.htmlArchimedes%20Movement%20at%20LC.htmlAfrican%20Awareness%20Group.htmlUnite%20for%20Diabetes%21.htmlshapeimage_4_link_0shapeimage_4_link_1shapeimage_4_link_2shapeimage_4_link_3
