| Loaded with images of corporate elites, advertising constructs portraits of various levels of the corporate hierarchy. While corporate commercials paint images of success, there are consistent undercurrents of anxiety, threat and uncertainty associated with the instability of corporate structures, the constant pressure of competition, the volatility of the market, the unruliness of new technologies, as well as the unforeseen consequences of corporate decision-making. Anxiety seems to hang in the air even for the most successful. One is going up or going down; making money or losing money; swallowing or being swallowed.
