Born and raised in Seattle, Kurt Fosso is a graduate of the University of Washington and a recipient of its Dean's Medal for the Humanities. He earned his Ph.D. in English, with an emphasis in critical theory, at the University of California, Irvine. In 1995 Kurt joined Lewis & Clark College's Department of English, where he teaches courses on British Romantic literature, Victorian literature, literary theory, and classical studies. His scholarly work focuses upon Romantic-era writers, particularly William Wordsworth, whose poetry he explores for its social meaning in Buried Communities: Wordsworth and the Bonds of Mourning (SUNY Press, 2004). Currently, he is examining Romantic-period literary and pictorial representations of animals and their connection to human consciousness, the body, and identity. His other interests include raising his youngest son, hiking in the great outdoors, and singing and playing guitar in a rock 'n' roll band. At present, in addition to teaching, he is serving as the Director of Academic Advising and of Lewis & Clark's new first-year core program, Exploration and Discovery. |
