July 3, 2002
Present: Curtis Johnson,
Dean of the College; Dinah Dodds, Interim Dean of Arts and
Humanities; Gary Reiness, Dean of Mathematical and Natural
Sciences; Harry Schleef, Dean of Social Sciences; Stephanie
Arnold, Dean of Arts and Humanities; and Greg Fredricks,

Agenda Items
- Academic Council agreed that the invitation list for
the Faculty Retreat should be more restricted than in the
past. Included would be all those listed in the Faculty
Handbook as members of the faculty plus a representative
from each key administrative office on campus. In
addition, Academic Council agreed to add a second
on-campus, half-day convocation for faculty and staff.
- The following were suggested as presenters for New
Faculty Orientation: Andrew Cortell, Rishona Zimring,
Janis Lochner, Bethe Scalettar, Michael Broide.
- Academic Council agreed to solicit readers for
external reviews in tenure and promotion cases early in
the spring semester before consideration of the case,
enabling the readers to get scholarly materials for
review during the summer if they request this. This will
be done on a case-by-case basis and may not be necessary
in all fields.
- Dean Dodds will start out serving as divisional dean
on search committees in the fall and then change to a
voting member in the spring when Stephanie Arnold assumes
the divisional deanship.
- Equipment requests:
- Physical data projector - approved
- Biology (Greta Binford) - requires further
information
- Graphic Arts lab - Dean Dodds will research.
- Mark Goodenberger has taken a tenure-track position
in Washington. The Music Department will need to replace
him.
