Committee and Subcommittee Charges and Membership


AAAS COMMITTEE

Charge:
The Committee on Admissions, Awards, and Academic Standing shall formulate and review policies relating to admissions, financial aid, academic standing, advising, scholastic awards, and other student honors. The Committee shall make its recommendations to the Dean of the College. When appropriate, committee recommendations shall be submitted first to the voting Faculty for its approval before submission to the dean of the College.

Membership:
The Committee on Admissions, Awards and Academic Standing shall consist of four members of the voting Faculty and two students. Three of the Faculty members shall be divisional representatives, one elected from each Division; and one Faculty member shall be elected at-large. The Dean of the College, the Dean of Admissions, the Registrar, the Director of Student Financial Services, the Dean of Students, and the Associate Dean of International Students shall be ex-officio, nonvoting members. Ex-officio members may designate a substitute if they are unable to attend Committee meetings.

SUBCOMMITTEE ON ACADEMIC STANDING:

Charge:
To review studentsí academic standing to determine "standard academic progress," to place students on warning, probation, suspension or dismissal as necessary, to decide what provision(s) the student must meet in order to return to good standing. The subcommittee also decides when to take students off warning and probation. This subcommittee meets shortly after grades come in after each semester and issues the appropriate responses to the studentsí academic records. The subcommittee will also investigate to see if there are patterns as to why students are failing.

Membership:
Voting members of the Subcommittee on Academic Standing shall consist of at least one committee on Admissions, Awards, and Academic Standing Faculty member, and two other Faculty members appointed at large from each of the other two divisions. Ex officio members shall be the Registrar, the Director of Student Support Services, Coordinator of Academic Advising, Director of International Student Services, a representative from the Admissions Office, a representative from the Counseling Center, the Dean of Students, and the Director of Ethnic Services.

SUBCOMMITTEE ON HONORS AND AWARDS

Charge:
This committee helps select and award student honors such as Pamplin and Cheney Scholarships. The Board of Trustees approves honorary degrees.

Membership:
Voting members of the Subcommittee on Honors and Awards shall consist of at least one Committee on Admissions, Awards and Academic Standing Faculty member, another Faculty member appointed at large, and a student member. Ex officio members shall consist of the Registrar, and the Director of Student Financial Services.

SUBCOMMITTEE ON PETITIONS AND WAIVERS

Charge:
This subcommittee considers student petitions to attend classes at other institutions to apply toward their Lewis and Clark College degree; for waivers of classes, especially with regard to senior residency requirements, meeting core requirements, etc. [The foreign language waiver for learning disabled students will occur automatically through the Student Support Services office with appropriate documentation from the LD student and consultation with the chair of the Petitions and Waivers Committee and the Registrar.]

Membership:
Voting members of the Subcommittee on Petitions and Waivers shall consist of at least one Committee on Admissions, Awards, and Academic Standing Faculty member, two other Faculty members appointed at large from the other two divisions, and a student member. Ex officio members shall be the Registrar, and the Degree Audit Coordinator.
