The ABA Tax Section Young
Lawyers Forum, sponsor of the LSTC, has posted this year’s problem and
rules, here.
We’ve got two teams, and we’ve begun meeting to discuss
rules and tax research techniques. These
meetings will continue for the next week or two, and then our teams will be
pretty much on their own. I can offer
some guidance, but under the rules of the competition, I am quite circumscribed
in how much I can say.
Participants should sign up
for the LSTC listserv, but at this writing, it apparently has not yet been set
up. At least, I have been unable to
join, and at least one student participant has told me that she has run into
the same problem. Please e-mail me (bojack@lclark.edu) if you
break through on that front; I’ll notify our teams if I do.

Welcome back to law school,
and welcome to this year’s Law Student Tax Challenge program!
This year’s problem
will be released by the ABA Tax Section within the next few weeks. In the meantime, we will need to meet twice,
for two hours each time, for an introduction to federal tax research. We will try to get at least one, if not both,
of these sessions done by Labor Day (Sep. 7).
Please
e-mail me (bojack@lclark.edu)
at your earliest convenience
with times that will work for you during the weeks of Aug. 24 and Aug. 31. Please give me a handful of times to pick
from. The times of our meetings will be
announced on or about Aug. 24.
