advanced microeconomics
Expectations for my Students in
Economics 492

Information about grading and how to contact me is available in my supplementary syllabus. I expect you to do all of the reading that is assigned for any given class. Economics can be a difficult subject if you fail to keep up with the material. Further, the only way to learn Economics is to do Economics, so I expect students to keep up with the end of chapter reviews. I expect you to come to class prepared to participate in class room discussions.

Collaborative learning is something I value highly. I encourage you to study together, discuss the material and prepare for examinations. It is important, however, that you know where to draw the line between collaboration and plagiarism, cheating, and other forms of academic dishonesty.

This course will explore the issues of firm organization and the organization of institutions in general, from an economics point of view. This is not a traditional business course. We will be using the tools of economics to try and analyze different firm structures and organizational alternatives. Our basic tools will those of economic theory.

The class will start with a general overview of microeconomic theory, moving on to the core elements of the theory of incentives. We will also have a review of some basic calculus and game theory.

For your benefit I have included a set of notes on what I see as important in each chapter. I have also included a set of online references, and self quizzes.
