Cliff Bekar's Virtual Office
Welcome to my webpage. I live in Portlnad Oregon, teaching economics at Lewis and Clark college. My areas of academic resarch include the the structure of medieval peasant agriculture, understanding the causes and consequences of long run economic growth, and the economics of technological change.

Recent Books and Movies Currently I am reading two non-fiction books and enjoying them both. Paul Seabright's The Company of Strangers argues that the true power of the market is its ability to facilitiate cooperation between ever larger groups of agents not predisposed to cooperate due to kin selection. The Red Queen, by Matt Ridley, explores the evolution of sex. If you ever wanted to understand the true "cost of men" this is for you. |
Current News Items Paul Wolfowitz is in trouble and it looks like he probably deserves to be. Violence is up in Iraq, but we are assured that it is, perversely, a sign of potential progress. |
