Experience real life at Lewis & Clark College as it happens. Throughout the 2005-06 school year, we joined these nine students as they experienced the ups and downs of life on Palatine Hill. Melissa Saulog '07
"Hey everyone!!! My name is Melissa Danielle Saulog, a Communication Major born and raised in San Francisco, CA. L&C has been such a fabulous experience, potholes included, and I'm definitely looking forward to what else it has in store for me. Right now I’m with 20 other fabulous people from L&C living it up in London for a semester. I am ready to take this amazing opportunity to its limits. I love to sing, dance, and just have a great time. I've been told that I'm a social butterfly, but I just like to talk to people and smile too much. I am determined to meet my goals but am passionate about taking life by the reins and seeing where it leads me. It's hard to put into a paragraph who you are, especially since I feel that everyday I am being shaped and reshaped through my experiences. I'd like to think I'm a simple gal, but there is nothing simple about life and college life nonetheless, and I look forward to sharing with you my world, WELCOME!!!" Real Life, by Melissa Saulog.
Aron Phillips '07
"Yo, what's good? My name is Aron and I'm from Shelburne, Vermont. I'm an International Affairs major and an Economics minor but I have a love for basketball and sports journalism. As you may know, last semester I was living in NYC as part of a L&C study abroad program. I interned with Dime Magazine (a basketball lifestyle magazine) and took art, architecture and theatre classes - going to modern art museums, walking around the city and seeing Broadway shows. It was a tough life! Now back in the mix up on the hill, I'm taking some great classes, meeting some great people and having a great time. Basketball is my life so get used to it. Here in Portland, I go to all the Blazers games to interview the players - just one of those things. Stick with me and I'll tell you how it is..." Real Life, by Aron Phillips.
Teal Takayama '08
"Hey guys, my name is Teal (like the color), and I've come from the suburbs of Pearl City, Hawaii to the grand city of Portland, Oregon. And it has been a glorious ride. I like learning, I like seeing squirrels, and I try really hard to keep my life interesting, so I'll never turn down a good adventure. Well, here it goes..." Real Life, by Teal Takayama.
Alyssa Larkin '09
"Well, it's been a crazy ride ever since I moved to the UK when I was eleven. I'm originally from Chicago, and my heart is torn between there and London. I spent the last two years of high school getting my IB diploma. I live with my family half an hour outside London in a sleepy little village called Claygate. I love to travel a lot with my family and friends...and now here I am at L&C! I love the Pacific Northwest and how green everything is out here. Yes, it is probably the farthest possible place from home (well, the place that I'm calling home right now.) Don't worry, I'm not lost! I'm on an adventure...I have two sisters--Julia is 21 and Sophie is nine. I miss them both so so much...My dad is the oldest of thirteen children so I have a very extensive family on his side, and I see them every summer at the Larkin Family Reunion (woo!). I love my family! I don't know what I’d do without them. I miss them (all) a lot, but I like being independent right now.
My academic interests are Foreign Languages (Spanish, French, maybe Russian), English and Art History (at this moment in time...). Some random facts about me: I used to be a quiet child. I went to a Catholic all girls' British boarding school. I once took off my shoes and waded in the fountains in Trafalgar Square. Up until the age of eleven, competitive ice-skating was my main reason for being. I interned at an auction house in Madrid – for a week. Does that count?" Real Life, by Alyssa Larkin. Noah Hallett '08
"My name is Noah Hallett, and for this weblog I've been asked to introduce myself. The administration has given me this handy little questionaire that I'll do my best to answer. First of all, I'm 19, a Sophomore biology major. I was born in San Francisco (California,) and lived there for four years before moving to Fort Ross (two hours north of SF) and have lived there ever since. Fort Ross is not a town, our post office is in Cazadero, California, which is half an hour drive away. It's right on the coast, so I've spent a lot of time at the ocean. Between the beach and the redwood forest state park that surrounds my house it's no wonder really that I became a biology major.
For hobbies, I love walking and writing mostly. Recently I've started doing work in the ravine (the woods that surround Lewis and Clark) which gives me a lot of opportunity to walk in the woods. I also love to play soccer or frisbee or swim when the opportunity arises. I've also been known to indulge in all manner of games when I have too much extra time." Real Life, by Noah Hallett. Ariane Fong '08
"Hellooooo! I am Ariane from the wonderful but very far away city of Hong Kong. Last year was the first time that I moved to the states to study, it's very different from all the other visits I paid to my relatives over here. I'm a sophomore psychology major and at this moment, I'm considering fine arts as a minor. When I'm not doing homework, I like to go shopping, dance and paint. I also like to curl up in bed with a book on Sundays and listen to rock, alternative, emo, classical and hip hop (yea, I basically listen to everything). One of my habits is taking pictures of everything that is interesting or visually stimulating to me. If that doesn’t sound too boring to you guys (I hope not), come and read my blog each week, I will try my best to help you guys learn more about L&C...and about me as well." Nicole Kaupp '06
"Hi! My name is Nicole Kaupp. I am a senior originally from Seattle, Washington (and by Seattle, I mean a mile away from the Space Needle). My mom still lives in the Seattle-area and I have a little sister (she is 19) who is a sophomore at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. While here at Lewis & Clark, I am majoring in history along with a close-to-double major in Biology. I am currently interested in becoming a Physical Therapist or working with Sports Medicine, although you may see that change over the course of the year. Throughout my three plus years here on Palatine Hill, I have been involved with the Varsity Swim Team, Varsity Crew and as well as the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. This year, I am living in Roberts Hall (the upper-class apartments) with three of my best friends. I look forward to sharing my year with you, the ups and the downs, the stress of writing a thesis, and the joys of looking forward to graduation. It is going to be a good year!" Reanna Winterholler '07
"Greetings! I am Reanna! A person's name doesn’t usually tell you anything about them, and that holds true for me too. Therefore, for those of you who don't already know me (and that includes all of you), I will introduce some of myself! (Only some?) I am 19 for now, and I wish my birthday was farther away. I'm a junior transfer student and a Foreign Language major. I like to draw, read comics, watch cartoons, and I hate pink. Physically, I am small (details later). This year may very well be a major ride for me as I am as new to living away from home as the newest freshman. On the other hand, I am already pretty used to the college level work load. I hope you all will join me as I try my best to keep you entertained with knowledge of such things as the co-ed showers, live-action Ninja Turtle movie marathons, why you don’t sit on the lawns after dark, the "Toro del Bosque," and other such "meaningful" information. By the way, I’m from Nevada City...that's in California, right next to Grass Valley and Rough & Ready, and a few miles east Smartsville. Go Nevada Union!" Real Life, by Reanna Winterholler.
Ryan Lidster '06
"My name is Ryan Lidster, and this is my fourth year here at L&C, where I am double majoring in Foreign Languages (French/Japanese) and Music (Piano). I was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, but came to LC from a smaller city further north called Kamloops. Being Canadian, I love hockey of course, but I also enjoy playing tennis, and being involved in on campus through the Lu`au, International Fair, tutoring, chamber music groups, and an alphabet soup worth of acronym organisations like GAB, ISLC, and CBC. (Just in case it comes up, I also spell things the Canadian way.) It looks like I'll be able to go out of L&C with a bang, so I invite you to join me for a wild ride!" Real Life, by Ryan Lidster.
