Visual Resources Collection Facilities

The Visual Resources Collection is located in Room 209 of the Fields Art Building. Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed weekends and holidays.

Light Tables

There are seven "built-in" light tables for faculty and students to use in the selection and arrangement of slides.

Caramate Slide Viewers

Two Caramate slide viewers are available for use in the Visual Resources Collection. The viewers are used to preview the quality and orientation of slides for slide presentations and for student make-up exams.

Scanning Station

The Scanning Station is dedicated to the production of digital images for the Visual Resources Collection. It includes a computer, a slide scanner and a flatbed scanner. General scanning requests are referred to the Instructional Media Services lab in Watzek library.

Copystand

The copystand is located in Watzek Library and is equipped for both analog and digital photography. Use of the equipment is restricted to the Visual Resources Collection staff and that of College Archives and Special Collections. Please contact the VR Curator for information about photographic services.

Reference Books

The Visual Resources Collection contains a group of reference books that can be accessed on site and checked out for short-term use. These include:

  • Latest editions of popular art history survey textbooks
  • Books on the history of architecture and photography
  • Various guides and dictionaries on history, the classics, and religious symbols
  • International Directory of Arts
  • Art and Architecture Thesaurus

Art Journals and Magazines

Monthly issues of ARTnews, Art Journal and the Art Bulletin are available for reference or for short term check-out.

The Visual Resources Collection exhibits the art work of art department faculty and students on a continuous basis.
