Definitions
Vegan - one who omits all animal products from their dietincluding meat, fish, eggs, and dairy.
Note: As veganism is a philosophy which extends beyond diet, vegans also abstain from wearing animal products (leather, fur, wool), using products that have been tested on animals (personal hygiene, cleaning supplies), viewing animals as a source of entertainment (circuses, rodeos), or otherwise contributing to animal exploitation.
Vegetarian (also known as lacto-ovo vegetarian) - one who omits animal flesh from their diet (meat and fish), but continues to eat eggs and dairy.
Note: variations of this include lacto-vegetarian (a vegetarian who eats dairy, but not eggs), ovo-vegetarian (a vegetarian who eats eggs, but not dairy), and pescetarian (one who omits land animals from their diet, but continues to eat fish and/or other sea creatures).
Flexetarian - one who eats animal products, but frequently eats plant-based meals and tries to limit the amount of animal products they consume.
Raw foodist - one who eats only living, uncooked foods.
Note: Most raw foodists are vegan, but some consume raw dairy products and/or fish. For the purposes of this program, all references to raw foodism should be construed to mean vegan raw foodism.
Freegan (free + vegan) - is one who opts out of the system of monetary exchanges, believing that participation in a capitalist economy contributes to social problems such as worker exploitation, misuse of resources, urban sprawl, cruelty to animals, and more.
Note: As with raw foodism, some freegans consume animal products. Thus, for the purposes of this program, all references to freeganism should be construed to mean vegan freeganism.
