Keith West '04 and Paul Bingham '05 debate Measure 30On Friday, Jan. 30 Lewis & Clark College debaters will argue the pros and cons of Measure 30 on the radio stations of Oregon Public Broadcasting.

The program Oregon Territory features Keith West '04, forensics team president, and Paul Bingham '05 debating the statewide ballot measure. Measure 30 would "enact several temporary and permanent tax increases and changes in order to maintain certain levels of service in public education, senior services, public safety and other areas, and to avoid budget cuts."

Lewis & Clark College's forensics team is ranked tops in the nation in parliamentary debate, leading a list of 350 colleges and universities. The rankings, maintained on the National Parliamentary Debate Association Web site, take into account points from competing teams at their best four individual debate tournaments.

For more than 50 years, the College's forensics team has consistently ranked among the top colleges and universities in the nation in forensics. In 5 of the last 20 years, the College has been ranked first in the northwest by the National Cross-Examination Debate Association. For 7 of the last 20 years, the College has placed in the top 20 in the nation, twice finishing in the top 10.
