Sports Facilities
Pamplin Sports Center
Lewis & Clark’s full complement of athletics facilities, located in and around Pamplin Sports Center, are open for recreational use, during posted hours, by students, faculty, and staff with a valid L&C Identification card. Lewis & Clark students, faculty and staff may purchase athletic facility passes for their dependents at the Physical Education and Athletics main office during normal business hours.
The main gymnasium in Pamplin Sports Center has three basketball courts, which also serve as volleyball courts and indoor practice facilities for several intercollegiate teams. The gym seats 2,300 in comfortable padded bleachers.
The sports center also includes a 3,600-square-foot, fully equipped weight-training room and a co-educational training room for intercollegiate athletics is staffed by two full-time certified trainers and student-trainers.
Zehntbauer Swimming Pavilion
Next to Pamplin Sports Center is the Zehntbauer Swimming Pavilion, which houses an eight-lane, 25-yard pool with one and three-meter diving boards. The pavilion, with its fully automatic Colorado timing system, has been the site of an NAIA National Swimming Championship meet.
Eldon Fix Track and Fred Wilson Field at Griswold Stadium
Griswold Stadium is located immediately west of the Sports Center. More than half of Griswold's 3,600 seats are under cover. The field was renovated in 1999 and features a state-of-the art Astro-Turf 12 playing surface. Griswold Stadium is named after benefactor and Board of Trusttee member Graham Griswold. The Eldon Fix Track is named after the former track and cross country coach, being named in his honor upon his retirement in 1981. Fred Wilson Field was named for the long-time Pioneer football coach in October of 2006.
Also located in the stadium is the Eldon Fix Track, site of the annual adidas Track Classic, which draws numerous international Olympic competitors. The track was also resurfaced in 1999 and is the finest such facility in the Portland area.
Huston Sports Complex
The Huston Sports Complex, just down the hill from the main campus and behind our law school, is the home of Pioneer softball and baseball teams. Both fields enjoy full dugouts, hitting tunnels, scoreboards, and spectator seating. The baseball diamond has bleacher seating down both lines and traditional stadium seats behind the plate.
The softball field has bleacher seating as well as a renovated area with a spacious tiered wooden platform perfect for bringing your own comfortable chairs to sit in. The cozy field has great sight lines and a lush, green backdrop, making it an incredible place to take in an afternoon of Pioneer softball.
Tennis Dome and Estate Courts
Immediately north of Pamplin Sports Center are indoor and outdoor tennis courts. A heated air dome covers three of the courts which are available year around. Click on the picture of the dome to see an interior view of the courts.
Two additional courts are located on the lower estate area of the campus.
Outdoor Pool
Located near the estate tennis courts, the outdoor pool provides a refreshing means of relaxing during the late spring and summer months. Check the facilities schedule for more information about this oasis in the midst of campus.
Oaks Park Boat House/ Rowing Facilities
The Pioneer crew teams have two home "courses" for their regattas. The fall regatta is held on the Willamette River near Oaks Park. The spring regatta is held at Lake Vancouver. Click on the photo below for more information about the rowing facilities.
McIver State Park
The Pioneers' home cross country course is located at Milo McIver State Park near Estacada. Originally designed as an 18-hole golf course alongside the Clackamas River, it was obtained by the State Park Bureau after the developer abandoned it just prior to completeion. Oregon Golf Club
The home course and practice facility for the Pioneer men's and women's golf teams is the private Oregon Golf Club, one of Portland's most-exclusive courses. Click on the photo below for more information.
