James LeMonds M.Ed. ’77 wrote the book Deadfalls, which chronicles the rise and fall of logging in the Pacific Northwest from a rural, small-town perspective.

Hoe-Yeong Kim M.M. ’85 has been teaching music composition at the Catholic University of Taegu (Hyosung Women’s University) in Seoul, South Korea.

Ron Podmore M.Ed. ’92 received the KCTS Golden Apple Award for his work as Decatur High School’s American sign language teacher. One of the most coveted education awards in the state of Washington, the Golden Apple is presented to individuals and programs that have made a significant contribution in teaching and educational innovation. Podmore and nine other winners were selected from more than 200 nominations from parents, students, educators and community leaders across the state. A panel of representatives from the Washington Education Association, Washington State Parent-Teacher Association, Seattle School District, Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, University of Washington, Washington Mutual Bank Foundation and Alliance for Education evaluated the nominees and selected the award recipients and projects to be honored.

Tiffany Hutchinson M.A.T. ’97 married Mitchell Wiencken July 8, 2000. She is an educator for the Beaverton School District. Wiencken is a commercial photographer and a construction contractor.

Whitney Preece M.S. ’00 married Peter Crofut Aug. 19, 2000. She is a mental health therapist at Mt. Hood Community Mental Health Center. Crofut is director of business development at SuperSig. The couple live in Portland.
