Alden Gilchrist ’51 will be honored for his 50-year association with Calvary Presbyterian Church in San Francisco this fall. He joined the church as organist following his graduation from Lewis & Clark. In 1965, the church appointed him director of music. Gilchrist holds the James Phelan and Prix de Paris Fellowship awards, has toured with tenor James Schwabacher, and has directed a 50-voice choir on two European tours. In the 1980s, in response to Proposition 13, he founded San Francisco’s Music in Schools Today program. Over the years, Gilchrist has held teaching positions at San Francisco State university, Dominican College, and the University of California at Berkeley.

Robert "Bob" Hilken ’52 received his J.D. from Concordia University in May 2000.

Harry D. Haley ’53 participated in a Korean revisit program for Korean War veterans. Attendees received medals from the South Korean government.

Shirley Lynch Peterson ’58 was recently elected to a two-year term as president of the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences. The organization offers a certifying exam to science editors. Before being elected president, Peterson served as registrar for the exam. She has written Editing Science Graphs and coauthored Posters and Poster Sessions, professional guidelines published by the Council of Biology Editors.
