College of Arts and Sciences College Outdoors

Welcome to College Outdoors!

College Outdoors provides the Lewis & Clark College community with access to the spectacular outdoor environments of the Pacific Northwest and beyond in a variety of activities including cross-country skiing, backpacking, whitewater sports, sea kayaking, and hiking. The group also provides on-campus events which include slide programs, films and seminars on outdoor topics.

College Outdoors trips go all over the Pacific Northwest. Participants find themselves at the mountains, river, desert, the coast, and during during extended breaks, on adventures into areas of Utah, Arizona, California, and beyond. Everyone can participate, from neophyte outdoors person to seasoned veteran. Trips promise friendly people, clean and occasionally moist air, and fantastic scenery.

Our trips are open to Lewis & Clark undergraduates, graduate students, law students, faculty and staff. On most trips, College Outdoors personnel arrange for food packouts, transportation, organization, group equipment, and personal equipment such as wetsuits, rain gear and backpacks.

Involvement with College Outdoors is an excellent way to gain practical experience in leadership roles. Students are welcome to get more involved with College Outdoors. Volunteering is not only valuable to the program, but continued volunteering can sometimes lead to a staff position.

Due to the litigious nature of society and the potential hazards of the outdoors, all College Outdoors participants must sign a release of liability form. For further information call or visit the College Outdoors office in Templeton College Center, 503-768-7116.

Our office is open Monday through Thursday, 8 am until 6 pm. Please click here for our mission statement.
