Mathematical Sciences Dept. Hike 2008

In September 2008, the faculty invited all students in a math or computer science class to join them for the 8th Annual Hike on the flanks of Mt. Hood followed by a Barbeque and board games at a professor's cabin. A record 42 students, 12 faculty/staff, 3 children and 4 dogs trekked up the mountain this year!

Group 2008

Students and faculty assembled for a group picture on a mountain peak with Mt. Hood in the background. This was only about one-half of the total group!

ParkingLot

On a sunny Saturday morning, we carpooled from the college up into the mountains. With 12 cars of hikers, we seemed to take over the trailhead parking lot.

Mirror Lake

After a short hike, we arrived at Mirror Lake and had lunch. Mt. Hood is reflected beautifully in this calm lake.

GirlsLake

Three of the students quietly ate their lunch on the edge of the lake, with a professor's dog looking for handouts.

Matt Greer

Matt G, one of our cool hikers, enjoys the great sunshine at the lake.

Girls Peak

From the lake, half of the group ventured up the trail to a nearby mountain top.

Life is sweet at the top!

jugglers

It's always easier to juggle at an elevation of 4,900 feet! Just ask Jesse, Lauren or Parker.

MirrorLakePeak

A great view from the peak of Mirror Lake (way down there where we lunched), Mt. Hood and the ribbon of highway where we parked.
