Evan T. Williams Sustainability Prize
The Lewis & Clark Sustainability Council invites submissions from members of the tri-campus community for the 2008 Evan T. Williams Sustainability Prize, named in honor of the founder of the Sustainability Council at Lewis & Clark College. The Council encourages all members of the College of Arts and Sciences, Graduate School, and Law School communities, including students, faculty, staff, and campus groups and organizations, to submit nominations for the Prize. Individuals and organizations may nominate themselves. Nominations should focus on completed or near-completed work only, not in-progress or anticipated projects.
The Council will award two prizes of $250 to recognize outstanding contribution toward increasing or promoting sustainability within the Lewis and Clark community: one for individual(s), and one for an organization – either one based on campus (such as a student group) or a company or organization that works with the campus (e.g. a school service provider such as Bon Appetit). The Council will determine awardees based on the merits of their work to significantly improve campus sustainability. For a discussion on our three-legged stool approach to sustainability, see the Council’s Moodle website.
Submissions should include:
1. Completion of the submission form (see below).
2. A brief written summary of the individual’s or organization’s contributions to campus sustainability, including the issue(s) addressed, the approach taken, and the project’s outcome or projected outcome. This description should not exceed 3 pages. Please send your submission via email to lcsc@lclark.edu. The LC Sustainability Council reserves the right to make public all submitted material.
Projects in the past that would have been applicable to the Prize have included a sustainability assessment framework, successful lobbying for more bicycler-friendly facilities at the Law School, and continued composting initiatives at Bon Appetit. Other projects representing any or all of the ecological, social, and economic legs of sustainability are welcome.
Submissions are due no later than April 11, 2008, at which point the Council will begin reviewing submissions. The winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2008.
Questions about the prize should be directed to lcsc@lclark.edu.
