School of Law Law School Registrar Course Schedule Moot Court Environmental Law Competition

Moot Court: Environmental Law

School Competition

During the first eight weeks of Fall semester, students research and submit briefs as appellants, respondents, or third-parties on a problem of environmental law that is prepared by the National Environmental Moot Court Board. Students attend four to six classes on aspects of Environmental Law, Appellate Advocacy and Legal Writing.

Prerequisite or co-requisite: Environmental Law

The American Bar Association accreditation standards require students to regularly attend the courses in which they are registered. Lewis & Clark expects students to attend classes regularly and to prepare for classes conscientiously. Specific attendance requirements may vary from course to course. Any attendance guidelines for a given class must be provided to students in a syllabus or other written document at the start of the semester. Sanctions (e.g., required withdrawal from the course, grade adjustment, and/or a failing grade) will be imposed for poor attendance.

National Competition

The top three students from the school's internal competition go on to compete in the National Environmental Moot Court competition at Pace University Law School in White Plains, New York. This second level of the competition involves writing a joint brief during the fall semester and then traveling to Pace for oral arguments in February. In past years, our team has done quite well in the national competition, winning the championship in 1994.

Prerequisite: Selected as team representative through school competition

Skills†: oral argument, brief writing
†Students may not earn more than four (4) credit hours in any one skill area
