Water Policy Seminar **
Description:
In this class, students will explore a wide variety of current issues in water law and policy, including such topics as: water marketing and water banking; the role of subsidies and incentives and other economic issues in water management; conflicts between modern environmental regulation and traditional water allocation law; federalism issues in water management; locally-based watershed initiatives; reclamation and reuse of water; evolving areas of "integration" in water law (quality and quantity, water use and land use regulation, ecosystem management, conjunctive management of groundwater and surface water); and global water management issues. Evaluation will be based on student papers, student presentations, and class participation. Students may use this class to satisfy either the A or B paper requirement, and the class may be counted toward the Certificate in Environmental & Natural Resources Law.
Meets Wie and Capstone Writing requirement -- Limited Prerequisite: Water Law The American Bar Association accreditation standards require students to regularly attend the courses in which they are registered. Lewis & Clark expects students to attend classes regularly and to prepare for classes conscientiously. Specific attendance requirements may vary from course to course. Any attendance guidelines for a given class must be provided to students in a syllabus or other written document at the start of the semester. Sanctions (e.g., required withdrawal from the course, grade adjustment, and/or a failing grade) will be imposed for poor attendance. **Not offered on a consistent basis
