Sports Law Seminar


Description:

This seminar will explore current issues relating to sports law. Matters considered will include: labor and antitrust issues in professional sports, drug testing, NCAA and Title 9 issues and the business of sports as it relates to athletes, agents, leagues and marketing. The course will combine discussions, mock negotiations and student presentations. Members of the seminar will make a presentation (with their paper co-author) to the class on a sports law subject of his or her choosing. Additionally, each member will be required to submit a co-authored paper in conjunction with the class presentation. The paper will satisfy the WIE paper requirement.

The American Bar Association accreditation standards require students to regularly attend the courses in which they are registered. Lewis & Clark expects students to attend classes regularly and to prepare for classes conscientiously. Specific attendance requirements may vary from course to course. Any attendance guidelines for a given class must be provided to students in a syllabus or other written document at the start of the semester. Sanctions (e.g., required withdrawal from the course, grade adjustment, and/or a failing grade) will be imposed for poor attendance.
