The Alumni Weekend schedule provides all alumni an opportunity to return to campus on October 24, 25 & 26th to reacquaint themselves with law school friends & faculty.
Alumni Weekend provides many opportunities to renew old friendships.

Thursday, October 23

4:00 - 5:30pm: Meet the Author Reception

Please join us for a reception in the Lower Student Lounge honoring books recently published by our law faculty.

Faculty to be recognized include: Brian Blum, Mike Blumm, Amy Bushaw, Bill Funk, John Grant, Craig Johnston, Jeff Jones, Bob Klonoff, John Kroger, Lydia Loren, Bob Miller, Joe Miller, and Elaine Sutherland.

Copies of their books will be available for review and possible purchase.

Friday, October 24

11:30am – 1:30pm: McCarty Society Luncheon

All alumni and faculty are invited to join the Class of 1958 as they are inducted into the McCarty Society.

The McCarty Society honors graduates of Northwestern School of Law who completed their studies fifty or more years ago. We take great pride in these alumni who nurtured Oregon’s first formal program of legal education.

The Society is named after the late Major General Chester E. McCarty ’29. His presence at the law school will be felt for generations to come, not just because of his generosity but also because of what he stood for as a lawyer, a citizen and a man of unassailable character.

Professor Melissa Powers will be the guest speaker at the McCarty Society Luncheon. Professor Powers will be speaking on Climate Change.

3:00pm – 4:30pm: Professionalism Roundtable

Join Professor Steve Johansen '87 as he moderates a session with attorney/judge discussion leaders and law students on the topic of "How a New Lawyers Becomes a Professional Lawyer - Building Your Professional Reputation". The session will be interactive and offer an opportunity to hear students discuss some of the issue that weigh on their minds as they prepare to enter the legal profession. The panel will consist of The Honorable Dennis Hubel'76, Melissa Chureau '02, Nicholas L Dazer '00 and The Honorable Jean Kerr Maurer.

The Professionalism Roundtable is a series offered to law students twice a year, to generate a conversation between experienced members of the bench and bar and law students. The Law School coordinates the Roundtable series with the Oregon State Bar/Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism.

5:00 – 6:00pm: Law School Tours

Oregon Wine & Cheese Tour of the campus. Enjoy a tour of the law school campus while enjoying Oregon Wine and Cheese. McCarty Classroom #3, Wood Hall and the Gantenbein Building will each feature different Oregon wine and Oregon beer available for sampling. McCarty Classroom #3 will provide an insight into the latest technology available on campus. The Gantenbein Building has evolved over the years to now house varies offices. Wood Hall is the newest building on the Law School campus.

5:30 – 8:00pm: Alumni Weekend Reception Honoring Professor Ron Lansing & Pat Kraske

Enjoy cocktails, hearty hors d’ oeuvres, and conversation with friends. Reconnect with faculty and fellow graduates at this festive reception for all alumni and their guests, and faculty.

Retiring Professor Ron Lansing will be honored for his over 43 years with the Law School. Please submit a note for Professor Lansing.

Pat Kraske will be honored with a Six Dean Award for her years of service to Lewis & Clark Law School and six Law School deans.

Classes of 1958, 1963, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, and 2003 will be recognized during the reception. Price includes Law School Tour and Reception

10:30am – 11:30am: Animal Law CLE –Pamela Frasch, Director Animal Law Program

Pamela Frasch will present a CLE on Animal Law. Lewis & Clark Law School has been a leader in animal law since the early 1990s and currently houses the most extensive animal law offerings in the world.

All alumni and their guests, faculty, staff and students are invited to attend lunch with speakers Dean Robert Klonoff and Oregon State Bar president, Richard Yugler ’80.

1:15pm – 2:15pm: Keynote Speaker Billy Martin - "Handling the Media in High Profile Cases"

Martin’s recent high-profile clients include Michael Vick, the NFL player convicted for his involvement in an underground dog-fighting ring, and Idaho Senator Larry Craig, following his arrest and guilty plea for disorderly conduct at a Minneapolis airport.

2:15pm – 3:45 pm: Mingle & Meet Billy Martin over dessert & coffee

Price includes includes lunch, Keynote and Mingle & Meet.

6:00pm – 10:00pm: Distinguished Honors Dinner

The Alumni Board of Directors invites all alumni to attend the prestigious Distinguished Honors Dinner. The Distinguished Graduate Award and Distinguished Honorary Graduate Award will be presented at the dinner. The Distinguished Honors Dinner will be held at the Governor Hotel, Grand Ballroom.

The Distinguished Graduate Award is given to a graduate who has used his or her degree from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College to achieve a positive mark on the profession and whose contributions to the legal profession and the community have brought honor and distinction to the Law School. The 2008 Distinguished Honors Graduate Award will be presented to M. Christie (Chris) Helmer ’74.

The Distinguished Honorary Graduate Award is given to an individual or individuals who, though not graduates of the Law School, exemplify support for and commitment to Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College and whose generosity and leadership profoundly help strengthen the Law School, both today and beyond. The 2008 Distinguished Honorary Graduate Awards will be presented to John and Susan Bates.

The Rising Star Award, a new award, will be presented this year to a graduate from the last ten years who has used his or her degree from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College to achieve a positive mark on the profession and whose contributions to the legal profession and the community have brought honor and distinction to the Law School. Trung Tu ’00 will be presented with the Rising Star Award.

Cost: $75 (discount does not apply to the Distinguished Honors Dinner)

10:30am: Breakfast with a Professor: Reunion Brunch

The class reunion brunches have been canceled.
