Welcome!The Office of Multicultural Affairs is responsible for leading the college efforts toward the advancement of a coherent and substantive commitment to diversity and multicultural perspectives. The office devotes considerable time to working with students, faculty, and staff to affect systemic change by coordinating campuswide efforts that emphasize teaching and supporting students to prepare them for full engagement in our increasingly complex and diverse world. This is done through a range of responsibilities and activities that contribute to a rich, supportive, and respectful campus in which similarities and differences across cultures are sought, welcomed, and incorporated to deepen learning.
Office functions and services include: - Provide academic, social and cultural support to students from underrepresented communities
- Serve as a resource to members of the Lewis & Clark community
- Help advise student of color organizations: Black Student Union, Gente Latina Unida, Native Student Union, Asian Student Union, Hawai’i Club, South Asian Club,United Sexualities , Jewish Student Union and other underrepresented student organizations
- Coordinate the Lewis & Clark Intercultural Network for Connecting Students (LINCS) program
- Assist in the organization of the Ray Warren Multicultural Symposium, the Martin Luther King (MLK) celebration, and other campus programs
- Collaborate with the admissions office on recruitment activities designed to increase diversity on campus
The Lewis and Clark Inter-cultural Network for Connecting Students (LINCS) Program: The office, in collaboration with Student Support Services, coordinates an inter-cultural network of students designed to facilitate the adjustments new students face in college life. Programs and Activities: In addition to the LINCS Program, the office coordinates and supports several educational, cultural, and social activities that work toward greater understanding of diversity. New Student Recruitment: The Office of Admissions develops recruitment programs that focus on students of under-represented communities. Advising: The office serves in an advisory capacity for student organizations focusing on issues of community, diversity, and understanding, while assisting faculty and administrators with multicultural program development and individual student issues.
