Visiting International Scholars

Prominent law professors and legal scholars from all over the world come to Lewis & Clark to do in-depth research on environmental and natural resources law topics. Visiting scholars provide international perspectives for our students, as our visitors in turn learn more about U.S. environmental laws and enforcement. In order for visitors to benefit from this program, it is essential that they be fluent in English before arriving in the United States.

Scholars chosen for our visitor program have the opportunity to participate in our many environmental and natural resources law programs, including attending Lewis & Clark's environmental and natural resources law classes taught by leading professors, and frequent extracurricular events.

Please note: beginning in 2009 all visitors from non-common law countries who have not previously studied the law of the United States or other common law countries are strongly urged to attend the Summer Seminar for International Lawyers, which begins the first full week of August, before beginning their scholarly research. If this is impossible, you may complete the course by email correspondence before your arrival in the U.S.

You may submit your Visiting Scholar Application Form (Microsoft Word format) online, by fax, or by mail. Please note that the deadline for our office to receive your application is February 15 for visits during the academic year (between August 1 and May 1), and December 15 for summer visits.
