Volunteer to clean up Johnson Creek with the law school

The law school invites the Lewis & Clark community to welcome its new students by participating in an orientation community service event.

Each year, the Johnson Creek Watershed Council holds its annual Watershed Wide Event, in which volunteers work to restore several areas along Johnson Creek, a native fish-bearing stream that flows through the heart of Southeast Portland. This year, volunteers from the law school will be working at Johnson Creek Park in Sellwood to remove trash and invasive plants and to mulch native plants. Details are as follows:

WHEN: Saturday, August 18 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with lunch to follow at the Johnson Creek Watershed Council offices.

WHERE: Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at the corner of S.E. Sherrett St. and 21st. Street parking is available.

WHAT TO BRING: Bring a hat, sunscreen, gloves and waterproof shoes. Water and snacks will be provided.

LOGISTICS: From the meeting site, volunteers will walk in the stream to the watershed offices, approximately one-half mile. Volunteers will pick up trash along the way and place it on the bank for later collection. A shuttle will return volunteers to their cars.

RSVP: Sign-up online by Friday, August 10.

IT offers GUI classes

Information Technology is offering two introductory Graphical User Interface (GUI) courses for Colleague and Benefactor users. Classes will be held on August 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
