David LaFrance ’86, the new alumni board chair for the College of Arts and Sciences, says Lewis & Clark has given him many gifts: his wife, Justine Miani ’85; solid preparation for his career; and a worldwide circle of friends.“Lewis & Clark changed my life,”he says. “Now it’s my turn to give back to the College.”

In June, LaFrance assumed leadership of the 22- member alumni board, the governing body of the Alumni Association. He succeeds Kim Hansink ’86, who led the board for the last two years.

The board’s primary charge is to strengthen ties between and among alumni and the College.“Lewis & Clark should not be a four-year experience but a lifetime experience,”he says.“The board wants to create situations that will make it easy for alumni to stay involved with the College—no matter their age or their locale.”

LaFrance also looks forward to forging strong bonds with the administration.“The College has a relatively new president, board chair, and vice president for institutional advancement,”he notes.“We’re in a great position to create a cooperative alliance that will benefit all alumni.”

LaFrance is director of finance at Denver Water, Colorado’s oldest and largest water utility. He also conducts financial management seminars for water utilities nationwide.
