Class News - 1950s

1952

Jim King '52, a former teacher and coach, took over his stepfather's bankrupt roofing business and turned it into Snyder Roofing, the largest roofing business in the Pacific Northwest. In 2001, Oregon State University's Austin Family Business Program recognized Snyder Roofing as the Outstanding Mid-Sized Family-Owned Business in Oregon. That same year, RSI Magazine selected Snyder Roofing as its Contractor of the Year. King lives part time in West Linn and part time at a new home in Welches. He is in the process of transferring the business to his two sons, Scott and Kyle '88.

1953

Floyd Riley '53 retired as a decorated master sergeant after 42 years in the military and bought a 10-acre blueberry farm. Riley and his wife have 8 children, 19 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

1955

Patricia Davey '55 recently won awards for two of her poems, "Good Samaritans" and "Face." Six of her poems appear in Alien Songs, an anthology celebrating the 50th anniversary of the purported UFO crash in Davey's hometown, Roswell, New Mexico.
