Class News - 1950s

1955

Ray Hyde B.S. was inducted into the Portland Interscholastic League Hall of Fame in 2006. As an undergraduate, he lettered all four years in baseball and was named First Team All-NAIA and First Team All-Northwest Conference in the sport. Hyde pitched four no-run, no-hit games between 1949 and 1954 and he went on to play professional baseball with the Sacramento Solons in 1955. He was drafted into the Army, and after serving in the military, he played baseball in Panama before returning to Oregon. Hyde later taught high school in Oregon City and in Munich, Germany. He was elected to the Lewis & Clark Sports Hall of Fame in 1986. He retired in 1992.

1956

Edward Perkins CAS retired as a U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, after nearly 40 years in the Foreign Service. He is now the William J. Crowe Chair Professor and executive director of the International Programs Center at the University of Oklahoma. (See also "Bookshelf.")

Suzanne Roberts B.S. was elected to the city council of Florence.
