In this one-day workshop Chris will share what he has learned from kids about their lives and what they need from teachers and counselors. He will also share strategies and ideas about “what works with kids” and different perspectives we can take if we listen.



Chris is the 2008 Graduate School commencement speaker.

Who is Chris Crutcher?

He is an author, educator, and family therapist known for his realistic fiction. He earned his teaching credential and taught primary and secondary school in Washington State and California. Offered the chance to direct a "last chance" alternative school in Oakland, CA, he respectfully served at-risk K-12 students for almost a decade before returning to the Pacific Northwest to write his first book, Running Loose for Greenwillow in the early 1980's.

He has eight other novels to date and other books and several motion picture projects in development. His books are heavily influenced by his work as a therapist and child protection advocate and he has been honored with dozens of awards.

Chris received the ALAN Award in 1993, the NCTE SLATE Intellectual Freedom Award in 1998, the Margaret A. edwards Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000 and Writer Magazine's Writers Who Make a Difference Award in 2004.
