Chris will share amazing and inspirational stories of the children he has connected with as a teacher and therapist. He returns to Lewis & Clark after his highly moving talk as the 2008 commencement speaker. He is sure to inspire teachers, counselors and those who adore children to continue in their very important and noble work positively impacting children. Chris Crutcher is a highly engaging speaker and storyteller. He is a former elementary and secondary classroom teacher, an administrator of a “last chance” alternative high school in Oakland, a child and family therapist and an award willing young adult author.


Chris Crutcher is an author, educator and family therapist know for his realistic fiction. His first book, Running Loose was published in 1982. Seven other novels, a collection of short stories and an autobiography followed. His fast-paced fiction – heavily influenced by his work as a therapist and child protection advocate is know for its expert balance of comedy and tragedy, as well as its unflinching honesty. He has received many awards and is a popular columnist and public speaker. Chris has authored King of the Mild Frontier, Whale Talk, Staying Fat for Sarah Burns, Running Loose and many other Young Adult books.
