Slideshow: Tracing the History of Bookbinding in Special Collections ExhibitDespite the proverb, judging a book by its cover can sometimes be revealing. The rich creative and cultural history of the art of bookbinding is now on display in an exhibition at Aubrey R. Watzek Library. The exhibit examines 500 years of bookbinding history, revealing some of the lesser-known items in the rare book holdings of Lewis & Clark’s Special Collections. Professor Emeritus Rev. Zuigaku Kodachi Honored by Consul General of JapanReverend Zuigaku Kodachi, professor emeritus of Japanese language and literature, was honored by the Consul General of Japan for receiving the Emperor’s Decoration of Japan. More than 100 guests were in attendance to honor Kodachi for more than 40 years of work building cultural bridges between the United States and Japan. Talking Politics With an ExpertE. J. Dionne Jr., author of Why Americans Hate Politics and a syndicated columnist for the Washington Post, recently visited Lewis & Clark. His discussion with undergraduates focused on the 2008 elections and the economy’s impact on the political landscape. Record number of Lewis & Clark grads teaching for AmericaFor Angela Finke ’08, the field of education has always been an appealing career option. One of 12 Lewis & Clark students accepted to the highly competitive Teach for America program this year, Finke is part of a growing group of college graduates from the nation’s most prestigious institutions bringing their talents into underserved schools.
