College of Arts and Sciences honors distinguished
alumni at Alumni Weekend 2005

Lewis & Clark College will honor three alumni on Oct. 14 for their outstanding achievements in service to their communities and to Lewis & Clark. The annual Alumni Honors Banquet recognizes Aaron W. Meyer '95, Paul R. Barker '71 MAT '81, and James L. Forman '81 as part of the Alumni Weekend tradition.

Newsweek calls Lewis & Clark one of America's hottest colleges

Newsweek magazine’s 2006 college guide calls Lewis & Clark one of the most interesting colleges in the country. The Newsweek-Kaplan College Guide selected 367 colleges and universities for the honor; only five Oregon institutions were included on the list. In addition, a feature article titled “Under the Microscope” touts science at Lewis & Clark as tops in the country, since “studying science at small schools can really magnify a student’s learning.”

The future of Lewis & Clark College

President Hochstettler announced the College will commence a strategic dialog to determine the future direction of Lewis & Clark College. The process will assess the opportunities and challenges to move Lewis & Clark further to the forefront of of America's best liberal arts institutions.The Lewis & Clark community -- faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents, and friends -- will be invited to help guide the work of the task force.

Patagonia's founder discusses corporate environmentalism at the Environmental Affairs Symposium

Businessman Yvon Chouinard’s early passion was traditional mountaineering. But in 1971, he realized the steel pitons he used to scale the peaks were damaging the environment. He adapted his methods and developed environmentally friendly aluminum pitons and went on to found Patagonia, a company committed to do “the least harm to the environment.”

Football commission named

The president of Lewis & Clark College, Thomas Hochstettler, has appointed a blue-ribbon commission to investigate the decline in recent years in the football program of the college. The commission will identify ways in which football might be reinvigorated so as to become once again a strong element within the athletic program of Lewis & Clark.
