William Stafford Archive Placed With College Library

The family of poet William Stafford has generously given his papers to Lewis & Clark, where they will go into the permanent care of Special Collections at Watzek Library. Stafford, who died in 1993, was Oregon’s poet laureate from 1975 to 1990 and a professor at Lewis & Clark for more than 30 years.

Junior Earns Truman Scholarship for Public Service

Ben Brysacz, a political science major from Tucson, Arizona, has earned the nation’s top prize for undergraduate leaders, a highly competitive Truman Scholarship. Brysacz, who wants to pursue a career in law and politics, says, “I really want to make a difference, and I feel that the political arena is the most effective place to do that.”

Research on Retirement Savings Strategies Draws
Attention in New York Times

A paper by Harry Schleef, associate professor of economics, and Robert Eisinger, associate professor of political science, that questions some of the most basic conventional wisdom about how to invest for retirement was recently featured in the New York Times.

International Affairs Symposium Features John Bolton

John Bolton, former U.S. representative to the United Nations, and Robert Krueger, former U.S. ambassador to Burundi, discussed the costs and benefits associated with humanitarian intervention as part of the 46th annual International Affairs Symposium’s focus on human security.

National Recognition for Science Achievements

A recent $1.3 million grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute will strengthen Lewis & Clark’s efforts to recruit and train the next generation of scientists, many from underrepresented groups. Also this spring, three students were awarded prestigious Barry M. Goldwater scholarships to support their futures in the sciences.

Class of 1958 Golden Reunion

Classmates and friends from the 1950s will celebrate the class of 1958's 50th reunion and induction into the Albany Society at this annual event. Festivities will include campus tours, an evening dinner and dance sponsored by the class of 1951, and the Albany Society Breakfast. If you graduated from 1949 through 1959 and are interested in joining in the celebration, contact the Alumni Office.
