Loren named interim law school dean

Lydia Loren, a law professor at Lewis & Clark Law School, has been named as the school’s interim dean. Lewis & Clark President Thomas J. Hochstettler announced the appointment on Monday, March 20. Loren becomes the first woman to lead the law school and assumes the post on July 1, 2006. Hochstettler made the appointment after consultation with members of the law school community. She succeeds James L. Huffman, Erskine Wood Sr. Professor of Law, who announced his return to the classroom at the law school after having served for 13 years as dean.

Binford earns prestigious career award from National Science Foundation

Greta Binford, assistant professor of biology at Lewis & Clark College, has received a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program award. The award is one the foundation’s most prestigious and supports the early career development activities of newer teacher-scholars who are considered most likely to become the academic leaders of the 21st century.

Graduate school seminar focuses on Great Tribal Leaders

Lewis & Clark's Graduate School and Center for Continuing Professional Studies will be hosting a community discussion 'Great Tribal Leaders of Modern Times.' Powerful personal stories are utilized to display the little-known history of the continuing survival and resilience of contemporary American Indian tribes. The discussions are divided into four seminars that span the fields of political science, American history, Native American studies, multicultural studies, and sociology.

Swimmers and coach take top NWC honors

The Northwest Conference swim championships wrapped up in Federal Way, Wash., on Sunday, Feb. 12. Lewis & Clark swimmers earned top place in three events: the Pioneer women's team finished second in the Conference, and with both the men and the women combining to break 13 school records and earn 13 all-conference designations. Matt Sellman, head swim coach, was named the women's Coach of the Year.
