Poetry Professor Wins NEA Grant for Creative WritingMary Szybist, assistant professor of English, has received a prestigious National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Literature Fellowship in creative writing. One of the foremost awards in the literary field, the NEA grant will support Szybist’s work on her second book of poems. Alum Phil Schiliro Profiled in the New York TimesLewis & Clark Law School alumnus Phil Schiliro J.D. '81 has been profiled in the New York Times for his appointment to President-elect Barack Obama’s administration. Schiliro will serve as assistant to the president for legislative affairs. Before joining the Obama team, Schiliro was chief of staff to U.S. Representative Henry Waxman and the House Oversight Committee and a policy director for former Senator Tom Daschle. Student Athlete Recognized by ESPN MagazineCurtis Smith, offensive lineman for the Pioneer football team, has been named to the 2008 Academic All-District Football Team presented by ESPN The Magazine. Smith, a junior double majoring in chemistry and physics, earned a spot on the team with a 3.57 GPA.
